The book/DVD package combines a color illustrated text with two DVDs containing edited videos of each of the minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgical procedures described in the book. With chapters in sections organized by body region, each chapter describes an operation, focusing on the most commonly performed laparoscopic procedures. Some of the operations covered include laparoscopic appendectomy, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic total gastrectomy for malignancy, and minimally invasive esophagectomy. A final section, on general topics, covers antimicrobial prophylaxis in the era of laparoscopic surgery, anesthetic implications, and instrumentation. The book contains color surgical photos, illustrations, and diagrams on every page. Frantzides is professor of surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and director of the Chicago Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery. Carlson teaches surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
