This atlas covers normal fish histology and contains about 450 color micrographs of histological sections of about 40 fish species. An introductory chapter covers basics of histotechniques and fish gross anatomy. Subsequent chapters cover various body parts and systems, including the skeletal and muscular tissues, the cardiovascular system, swim and gas bladders, and endocrine glands. All photomicrographs are original. Tissue and organ samples chosen to illustrate the book have been selected from reared food fish, as well as from species in the aquarium and in the wild. Images come with captions supplying information on level of magnification, scientific names, and the stain applied. The atlas is designed for use by students, biologists, ichthyologists, fish farmers, veterinarians, and comparative histologists who want to learn more about the fish world. Genten has taught histology and biology to veterinary and medicine students.
