The DECT technology delivers the signal up to 200 meters from a base station, each of which is deployed on lamp posts (with approximately 4200 per city planned) to deliver VoIP services. The solution, combining proven technologies, is the first of its kind worldwide and leapfrogs existing infrastructure constraints to deliver the latest features throughout Romania.

"We selected the BroadWorks residential VoIP application platform because it offers the greatest scalability so we can ultimately serve hundreds of thousands of users; it offers a full range of enhanced features that will meet the needs of our users; and it combines the DECT and SIP technologies intelligently to provide the only configuration of its kind in existence," said Pompiliu Tripa, President of Atlas Telecom Eastern Europe Eastern Europe

More importantly though, this implementation demonstrates that VoIP functionality depends not on the latest network technology but on the intelligence in the data centre - this is clearly the driver for creating new value and extracting more out of any communications investment."

From its position in the Atlas Telecom data centre, BroadWorks is able to provide advanced call features to terminals connected through the IP-based DECT wireless local loop network.
