Atlantis, Paradise Island, Sun International's first resort for American market to open Dec. 22.

Paradise Island is an island in the Bahamas, north of the island of New Providence which is home to (Nassau). It is best known for the sprawling 'Vegas-by-the-sea resort' Atlantis.

Representing one of the most ambitious and most expensive resort development projects ever attempted in The Bahamas, the Bahamas, the (bəhä`məz), officially Commonwealth of the Bahamas, independent nation (2005 est. pop. 301,800), 4,403 sq mi (11,404 sq km), in the Atlantic Ocean, consisting of some 700 islands and islets and about 2,400 cays, beginning c.  $250 million resort and casino is owned and operated by Sun International, one of the largest hotel and gaming companies in the world.

In addition to 1,150 guest rooms and suites, 12 dining venues, a championship golf course, 30,000 square-foot casino, a cabaret theatre, conference center and shopping mall, Atlantis, Sun International's first venture in the U.S. marketplace, will have a living, 3.2 million-gallon saltwater habitat -- the world's largest outdoor, open-water aquarium -- with six exhibit lagoons and more than 100 species of tropical sealife, including sharks and rays.

In addition to watersports such as snorkeling and diving (SCUBA lessons are available on-site), there is unparalleled deepsea fishing, golf at the nearby Paradise Island Golf Club and tennis at the Paradise Island Tennis Club (both facilities owned and operated by Sun International).

Atlantis, Paradise Island also promises to be an incomparable family vacation destination. In addition to the delights of the exhibit lagoons, the Waterscape includes a $2 million children's swimming pool and other unique recreational features. The custom-designed Atlantis River Ride carries children of all ages by means of a gentle current on a meandering ride through the resort, the length of more than four football fields.

Ocean Club's famous Versailles gardens, with their statues of such luminaries as Napoleon's Josephine, FDR, David Livingstone, the Faust legend and Cecil Rhodes, and the 14th century French cloister cloister, unroofed space forming part of a religious establishment and surrounded by the various buildings or by enclosing walls.
