DULLES, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 24, 1998--Atlantic Coast Airlines, the Dulles, Va.-based United Express carrier, today announced that it has applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation for five "slots" to operate three daily jet flights between Chicago O'Hare International Airport O'Hare International Airport is an airport located in Chicago, Illinois, United States, 17 miles (27 km) northwest of the Chicago Loop. "Our recently launched jet service between Savannah/Hilton Head and Washington Dulles has been very successful," said Kerry Skeen, ACA's president and chief executive officer. "The community response has been excellent, and we look forward to further improving access to Savannah and Hilton Head Island Hilton Head Island

If granted the slots, United Express/ACA expects to begin service between Chicago and Savannah on November 3, 1998. United Express flights, in addition to being convenient to the local passenger, will connect to its marketing partner, United Airlines, and its O'Hare hub, which offers service to more than 137 destinations worldwide.

The proposed service would be provided by the 50-passenger Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ CRJ Canadair Regional Jet

Patrick S. Graham, executive director of the Savannah Airport Commission, indicated today in a press release in Savannah that the communities of Savannah and Hilton Head Island strongly support Atlantic Coast Airlines' filing for slots into Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

"The willingness of Atlantic Coast to file for the slots indicates the need for service between Chicago and the communities of Savannah and Hilton Head Island and the strength of the market," Graham said. "Since the Savannah/Hilton Head Island market is the No. 1 market for Chicago without nonstop HP's brand name for its fault-tolerant servers, which range in size from four CPUs to 4,000 CPUs.
