Atlanta Police Department Awards Firearm Contract to Smith & Wesson.

), parent company of the legendary 152 year old Smith & Wesson Corp., was awarded a contract with the Atlanta Police Department The Atlanta Police Department is the law enforcement agency of the city of Atlanta, Georgia.

The city shifted from its rural-based Marshal and Deputy Marshal model at the end of the 19th century. In 1873, the department was formed with 26 officers.

 handguns valued at approximately $900,000. The firearms are in the process of being put into active duty with the initial shipment having been delivered in June.
