Atkinson Construction Awarded $4.1 Million Washington Bridge Project.

There is light manufacturing and petroleum refining. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 1996--Atkinson (ATKN:NASDAQ/NMS) today announced that one of its operating divisions, Atkinson Construction Company, has been awarded a $4.1 million contract from the Washington State Department of Transportation The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), led by a Secretary and overseen by the Governor, is a Washington governmental agency that constructs, maintains, and regulates the use of the state's transportation infrastructure. .

The contract is to rehabilitate the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge The Evergreen Point Floating Bridge, officially the Governor Albert D. Rosellini Bridge—Evergreen Point, is the longest floating bridge in the world at 7,578 feet (2,310 meters). .

The contract includes pontoon pontoon, one of a number of floats used chiefly to support a bridge, to raise a sunken ship, or to float a hydroplane or a floating dock. Pontoons have been built of wood, of hides stretched over wicker frames, of copper or tin sheet metal sheathed over wooden  roller mechanical replacement, structural rehabilitation of the floating bridge and repaving the floating bridge and 2.3 miles of State Route 520 east to Interstate 405. Project construction is expected to begin in April 1996, with completion scheduled in September 1996. Atkinson has been an important part of the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge's history. Atkinson originally constructed the floating bridge in the early 1960's and reconstructed the lift span electrical and mechanical systems in 1994.

Atkinson operates internationally through three construction companies providing full service construction to markets for power, industrial and commercial building, pulp and paper, mining, infrastructure, and water and wastewater treatment.
