Athletics: Pembroke star Rimmer steps up to top table.Byline: By JANE WOODHEAD LIVERPOOL Pembroke Sefton star Michael Rimmer Michael Rimmer (born February 3 1986, Southport) is an English middle distance runner. Originally a member of Southport Waterloo AC but defected to rivals Liverpool Pembroke Sefton who he still now races with. has ended his year on a high after being handed Lottery Funding support. The 20-year-old, who finished eighth in the European Championships 800m final in Gothenburg this August, is one of only five athletes across the country to be promoted to the World Class Podium class, which includes such household names as Jason Gardner and Paula Rad-cliffe. Rimmer is also one of 16 TLPS TLPS Transient Liquid Phase Sintering (adhesive) stars who have been selected for the North West Athletics Academies. The club has five 400m runners in the Academies, in Mark Grimshaw, Harry Doran, Jack McGinn, Wayne Ashall and Daniel Higham.
