BUCKLEY'S John Pares PARES. A man's equals; his peers. (q.v.) 3 Bl. Com. 349.  proved himself to be among the best ultra-distance runners in the world when he turned in a superb performance at the weekend.

Pares, 41, set off at a conservative pace but as the hours passed he gradually worked his way up the field, reaching 14th place at one stage, but then slipped back in the final couple of hours.

Mountain-running specialist Steve Gillil-and gave the Snowdon race a miss this year and compensated by winning the Dolgellau five-mile race closer to home.

The Bro Dysynni veteran finished just one second ahead of Paul Dodsworth (Warring-ton), with Simon Shiels (Abergele) third, showing further signs of a return to the form which earned him so many titles over the years.

Tim Davies (Maldwyn), three-times winner of the Snowdonia race, also turned his attention to the flat, joining a quality field in the Great Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff.  10k race in Cardiff. He finished 23rd overall in 31m 42s.

Anglesey-born Tracey Morris had fine run in 45th place overall, clocking 33m 44s, and Eryri's Paul Wathan returned to something like his old form with a time of 35m 54s to take 69th position.

The L35 class was won by Colwyn Bay's Tammy Lewis-Jones in 38m 22s.
