UK ATHLETICS UK Athletics is the governing body for the sport of athletics in the United Kingdom.

UK Athletics was founded in 1999 as a successor to the British Athletics Federation, which had collapsed for financial reasons.
will ask Christine Ohuruogu Christine Ohuruogu (born May 17, 1984 in east London) is an English sprinter of Nigerian heritage who specialises in the 400 metres - the event for which she is the current World Champion.

to spearhead the British challenge in the 4x400 metres relay at the World Championships even though she has only just completed her drugs ban.

Ohuruogu has been named in the Great Britain Great Britain, officially United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, constitutional monarchy (2005 est. pop. 60,441,000), 94,226 sq mi (244,044 sq km), on the British Isles, off W Europe. The country is often referred to simply as Britain.  team for Osaka two days after she completed a 12-month suspension for missing three out-of-competition tests.

UK Athletics performance director Dave Collins
David S. Collins (born October 20, 1952 in Rapid City, South Dakota) became manager of the Inland Empire 66ers in 2006. Prior to that he was an outfielder in Major League Baseball from 1975 to 1990.
had no qualms about welcoming the 23-year-old Londoner back into the fold.

"I think we've been up front and always said she would be eligible for selection," said Collins.

The selectors also want to see the Commonwealth champion, who has not raced since July last year, compete in the individual 400 metres.

Collins added: "As it is, she has the qualifying time and including her in the relay also then made it an easier decision to pick her for the 400m.

"She's going as a member of the relay squad. But she's been chosen for the 400m flat to help her get back some of her fluency."

Ohuruogu will compete with Nicola Sanders Nicola Sanders (born June 23, 1982) is a British sprinter and hurdler. Nicola won a bronze medal in the European Junior Championships in Riga in 1999 at 400m hurdles. That same year she was 4th in the 400m hurdles at the World Youth Championships.  and Lee McConnell Lee McConnell (born October 9, 1978) is a Scottish athlete who competes in the 400 metres and 400 m hurdles. In addition to winning medals in individual contests, she has been a fairly successful relay runner. Her personal best time over 400 m is 50.82 seconds.  in the one-lap event. With individual victories unlikely, the relays are the best opportunities for the British team to win medals in Japan.

Two years ago in Helsinki the quartet of McConnell, Donna Fraser - again in the side - Sanders and Ohuruogu took the bronze behind Russia and Jamaica.

Paula Radcliffe's marathon success and the men's 4x100mrelay bronze were the only other medals.

The 4x400m quartet has a good chance of returning to the podium, particularly given Sanders' emergence as a world-class competitor after returning to the flat from the 400mhurdles.

But Collins warned Ohuruogu will not be at her best, adding: "Expectations from her should be tempered by the preparations she has had.

"It will give her the opportunity to get back into harness and test herself in the build up to Beijing next year."
