Another athlete to excel was Richard Yuille from Berwick Hills. The talented Middlesbrough and Cleveland thrower took the silver in the seated men's discus.

A sextet of Middlesbrough AC female athletes selected for the competition were also in fine form.

Kayleigh Mills from Greatham won the bronze medal in the hammer competition, while her clubmate Ashleigh Wood repeated the feat by taking the bronze in the long jump.

Chloe Gill was unlucky to miss out on a medal in the triple jump despite improving her personal best for that event by 16 centimetres.

Jayme Norton was also unlucky to miss out on a place in the individual 300m final when running the ninth fastest time of the qualifying rounds.

Fifteen-year-old Kate Welford competed with distinction in the 200m to finish sixth in her semi final while Jayme Norton was joined by North-east 300m champion Sofiya Pela-Aliyu to come fourth in their relay semi final.

Sean McCartney competed well in his first major competition to finish in 11th place in the men's long jump.
