Athletics: Godiva's Hazell is home 11th in 14,000-entry run.


COVENTRY GODIVA'S Scott Hazell stepped up to finish a highly creditable 11th in the Bristol Half-Marathon which is now the second biggest in the country.

Hazell came home in 1-09-51 as winner Tom Payn (Winchester) led in a huge field of 14,000 runners in 1-05-48.

NORTHBROOK AC's John Hosie ran a personal best 58-54 for ninth place in the Nuneaton 10-mile road race, improving by over a minute as he led the Coventry club to the team prize.

Nathan Holmes (60.20), 12th, and Howard Andersen (61.17), 16th, supported Hosie in the team battle from a 21-strong Northbrook entry.

Massey Ferguson veteran David Phillips completed the full marathon in 4-52-00 after completing the Penistone 10km, in the Peak District, the previous day, alongside daughter Anna (Penistone Harriers) in 1-01-44.

COVENTRY'S Steve Edwards was fifth overall and first over-45 in the Great Langdale Marathon, covering a tough two-lap course around the Cumbrian fells in 3-21-34 with several steep 1-in-4 climbs.

It was Edwards's third time in the race and his first sub-3-30 clocking as he ran the first lap in 1-41, in 10th place, and pushed on to post a negative split.

Northbrook's Andy Kelsall lowered his best to 1-00-48 from 1-02-35 in the Sheffield 10km road race, giving him a string of six successive personal bests.

Kenilworth Runners's Mandy Crust completed the Chippenham Half-Marathon in 1-52-47.
