Athletes on track for major honours.Byline: Athletics Local youngsters are hoping for success at a major national meeting in the North-east this weekend. The English Schools Athletic Association national championships take place at Gateshead Stadium tomorrow and Saturday, organised by the Northumberland schools association. Cleveland are sending the maximum allowed squad of 25 to the competition of ten counties that is often called the "Kids Olympics". This year Cleveland have a very strong team and have had to omit several talented youngsters. The senior boys team compiles nearly half the total squad and includes several medal prospects. Last year as an intermediate, Dean Daniel smashed the 200m record and this year will be aiming to nudge the 21 second barrier. Teesside's top two sprinters, Ben Wilron and Louis McElwee, race over 100m. McElwee won the athlete of the meeting award in last week's NTAL meeting on Merseyside. The intermediate girls team features Debbie Forster, who is entered in the 300m hurdles and will be looking to follow in Commonwealth Games Commonwealth games, series of amateur athletic meets held among citizens of countries in the Commonwealth of Nations.
