The AR8216 6-port 10/100 Fast Ethernet switch has been introduced by Atheros Communications Inc (Nasdaq:ATHR ATHR Autothrust System ) (Atheros), a developer of advanced wireless solutions.

Atheros said the AR8216, which is its first Ethernet switch product, supports a broad range of wired and wireless networking applications and targets mainstream 802.11n and 802.11g wireless router and gateway platforms.

Atheros claimed the switch provides a 6-port configuration incorporating five 10/100 Ethernet PHY ports, an MII port for CPU CPU

According to Atheros, the launch of the AR8216 provides a high-performance, low-cost Fast Ethernet switch solution, giving networking customers the main silicon required for complete wire-to-wireless router solutions. It confirmed it is now able to offer single-source, end-to-end networking designs which include its WLAN, network processors intended for Wi-Fi and its new Fast Ethernet switch.
