With more than 10 years of sales and marketing experience, Deirdre Fenick will serve as director of sales operations. Melissa Lukowski, a seasoned product development and implementation professional, has been appointed to director of product partnerships. Phillip Roberts, a technology services veteran, joins the team as director of technical services. Ken Scalia, who possesses more than 20 years of healthcare experience, will act as director of business development.

Deirdre Fenick

As director of sales operations, Fenick will oversee the development and implementation of sales programs with a focus on prospect targeting, as well as further integrating the sales and implementation efforts of the Company. Previously, Fenick worked for IDX Systems Corp. for more than 10 years. As an engagement and product manager, she was responsible for the launch of the Master Patient Index (MPI) application and consulting services. While at IDX, Fenick consulted with large IDNs on the financial and clinical implications of duplicate patient records, implemented processes to reduce implementation time of a MPI by 50 percent and increased revenue by $2 million over three years. Fenick also played an instrumental role in IDX's sales department as senior project leader and senior analyst. Fenick holds a bachelor of science and a master's degree in business administration from Boston University.

Melissa Lukowski

In her appointment to director of product partnerships, Lukowski will leverage industry expertise to ensure the successful development, implementation and maintenance of all product partner-related strategies. Lukowski most recently worked as a senior consultant for Cambridge, Mass.-based Integral Inc., where she designed and managed product development processes for medical device and software companies, and created methods for rapid market introduction. Previously, she served as a lead design engineer for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. Lukowski holds a bachelor of science and master of science in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as a master's degree from Harvard Business School.

Phillip Roberts

Roberts joins Athenahealth as director of technical services and will support the technology needs of users across the Company's national customer base. Previously, Roberts served as director of technology services for the dental division of Protective Life Corp., a financial services company based in Birmingham, AL. During his tenure, he led programs that decreased help desk calls by 40% and reduced call times by 40 seconds per call for a 100,000 call per month customer center. Additionally, Roberts served as a technology services manager for United Dental Care Inc., and the Ambulatory Surgery Group of Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp., as well as manager of corporate network/communications for Medical Care America. Roberts holds a bachelor of behavioral science in psychology from Hardin Simmons University.

Ken Scalia

Acting as director of business development, Scalia will focus on building an extensive network of physician users in the New York and Connecticut area. Prior to joining Athenahealth, Scalia served as director of business development for Compusense Inc., a medical software company. In this role, he was instrumental in developing the corporate business plan while administering strategic partnerships. Prior to this position, Scalia served as regional sales manager for Compusense Inc. Scalia also worked for Dedham, Mass.-based Versyss Inc., as general sales manager, director of sales development and Northeast regional sales director. During his seven year tenure, Scalia consistently met and exceeded sales quotas and managed a customer base of more than 500 companies. Scalia holds a bachelor of science in health science from Northeastern University and completed coursework for a master's degree in public health at Clark University.
