For the first quarter of 1996, product sales and service revenue increased $3.5 million or 36 percent, over the first quarter of 1995. This increase was partially offset by a decrease in contract revenue of $0.5 million. The net loss for the first quarter of 1996 was $3.7 million, or $0.13 per share, compared to a net loss of $11.4 million, or $0.50 per share, in the first quarter of 1995.

The results for the first quarter of 1995 included non-recurring charges totaling $5.1 million, or $0.22 per share, related to the acquisition of certain in-process technology and product rights, together with expenses resulting from the Company's acquisition by merger with Athena Diagnostics (1) Software routines that test hardware components (memory, keyboard, disks, etc.). Diagnostics are often stored in ROM chips and activated on startup.
