 young woman who has worked in her father's 1677 London bookshop so long, and read so much, that she is decidedly independent. When her widowed father marries again, Meg worries that she will lose her inheritance, her father's bookshop. The picture of family life mixed with the works of real authors, dramatists, and actual literary works brings this to life. Among the dramatists whose work Meg reads is Aphra Behn Aphra Behn (July 10, 1640 – April 16, 1689) was a prolific dramatist of the Restoration and was one of the first English professional female writers. Her writing participated in the amatory fiction genre of British literature. , who had more than a dozen of her plays produced in the Restoration Period.
