In the legal context, little has been done by way of analysis when compared to other areas of health law. The Health Law Institute has undertaken two endeavours to attempt to begin addressing the dearth of information in this area. Firstly, we have been fortunate to gather together many Canadian legal and public health experts from across the country to write Public Health Law, Ethics and Policy in Canada. This text will be out in 2005 and we anticipate that it will fill a gap in terms of gathering together issues in this context in one resource, mainly with a legal focus. After the latest round of reports dealing with last year's SARS outbreak, this will be very timely and greatly needed. Another piece of good news: Jane Steblecki, a lawyer with extensive experience in the health law privacy context, will be joining the Institute as its new project manager beginning on May 31.
