At our peak; ...to prove we're raining champs!Byline: By RON LIVINGSTONE INTREPID adventurers took to the highest mountains of the UK - in one of the wettest weekends in living memory. Steve Hall plus friends and "friends-of-friends" took on the national three peaks challenge - climbing Ben Nevis Ben Nevis (nē`vĭs, nĕv`ĭs), peak, 4,406 ft (1,343 m) high, Highland, W Scotland, overlooking Glen Nevis; highest peak of Great Britain. , Scafell Pike Sca·fell Pike A mountain in the Cumbrian Mountains of northwest England. The team of 17 climbers, backed by a support team of five, made it by the deadline - with seconds to spare - and hope to raise about pounds 6,000 for worthy Teesside causes. Conditions on Ben Nevis were "great" and the team got up and down in five hours on Friday afternoon. There then followed a six hour drive to Wasdale Head Wasdale Head is a small village in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, England. Steve, a driving instructor from Acklam, Middlesbrough, said: "We gritted our teeth and saw it through." The driving team skillfully got them to Wales in awful conditions for the last peak, in vehicles which included a people carrier loaned by Kia Motors. Steve added: "We arrived and literally ran out of the vehicles knowing the clock was now firmly against us. "The weather made it a particular challenge but determination outranked aching limbs."
