QMS, Inc. (NYSE:AQM) today announced the QMS(R) magicolor 2
DeskLaser Printer, the newest addition to its award-winning
magicolor(R) 2 family of color laser printers. The latest QMS laser
printer is designed to provide vibrant color, as well as sharp
black-and-white printing specifically for the world's most popular
operating systems, Windows(R) 95 and NT 4.0. The magicolor 2
DeskLaser's engine and controller technology provide incredible
ease-of-use and performance. These features and an impressively low
$2,499 reference price provide users with the durability and economy
of laser print technology at an overall cost that is much less than
color inkjet printers typically used in business workgroups.
"The increasing use of color printers, especially in network
environments, and the widespread use of Windows operating systems has
created the perfect fit for the QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser," said Grady
Yarbrough, color product line manager for QMS. "It's fast, easy to
use, affordable, and produces beautiful color prints in seconds. Color
laser technology has always provided better output at lower costs than
inkjet printers. The magicolor 2 DeskLaser is the first network color
laser printer at a price point mainstream businesses can truly
justify."
Full-Featured and Network-Ready
The QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser Printer offers 8 MB of RAM, 600 dpi
resolution, and print speeds of 4 ppm in color and 16 ppm in black and
white. The DeskLaser also provides connectivity options for today's
business needs. A standard Ethernet interface is included to support
TCP/IP network printing. For the individual user, a standard parallel
interface allows easy "Plug and Play" connectivity. As business needs
change, the QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser can be upgraded to a QMS
Crown(R) printer which includes PostScript(TM) and PCL 5c emulations,
network administration tools, and additional network protocols.
Ease-of-Use
The QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser provides the highest level of color
quality, ease-of-use, and performance found only in the QMS magicolor
2 family.
-- QuickChange Consumables -- With an advanced monocomponent design,
the QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser's QuickChange consumables are a
breakthrough in simplicity. Easily accessible from the printer's
front panel, the QuickChange toner cartridges are color-coded and
keyed to prevent misinstallation and to provide the least amount
of downtime for the active office. QuickChange consumables have
approximately twice the capacity of toner than that of previous
generation color laser printers at 6,000 color prints and 10,000
black-and-white prints-per-cartridge at 5% average coverage.
-- Diverse Media Handling -- A wide range of media handling features
are supported by the QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser Printer including:
full-color printing on up to legal size pages, automatic
transparency detection, thick stock support, envelope printing,
and manual color duplexing. A 250-sheet standard input tray is
included with the QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser. An additional
250-sheet Universal tray (for legal support) and a 250-sheet
lower paper feeder are optional.
-- Fast Throughput -- The QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser delivers
affordable color output with the speed and throughput of its
higher-priced competitors. Featuring an Intel(R) i960SA processor
and utilizing QMS' DSAP technology, the QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser
produces color pages at up to 4 pages-per-minute and monochrome
pages at up to 16 ppm. QMS DSAP technology optimizes printing by
intelligently distributing document processing between the host
and the printer.
The QMS magicolor 2 Family
The QMS magicolor 2 DeskLaser joins two other QMS magicolor 2
Print Systems, the CX and EX models. Both feature QMS' exclusive
Crown(R) multitasking controller technology and a 133 MHz RISC
processor. The QMS magicolor CX offers 600-dpi resolution and the EX
