At a time when many opera companies are looking to reach bigger audiences, L'Opera de Montreal scored a huge success in June when it presented a simultaneous broadcast of its final performance of Madama Butterfly Madama Butterfly (Madame Butterfly) is an opera in three acts (originally two acts) by Giacomo Puccini, with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa.  on a giant screen set up on the Place des Arts Place des Arts is a major performing arts centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
