At NCBC, DR Systems to Exhibit Market-Leading Integration of PACS with Digital Mammography.

SAN DIEGO -- DR Systems will exhibit its market-leading integration of PACS and digital mammography, during the upcoming National Consortium of Breast Centers' (NCBC) 19th annual conference.

DR Systems will be in Booth 53 during the conference, which runs from Mar. 15-18 at Planet Hollywood, in Las Vegas.

The breast imaging, reporting and tracking functions of DR Systems' Unity[TM] RIS/PACS are now successfully operating at 30 customer sites. The system is providing a comprehensive solution for full-field digital mammography (FFDM), third-party CAD, breast MRI and ultrasound, and breast reporting with automated regulatory compliance, including MQSA.

Exams from all modalities, including digitized prior film-based mammograms, can be read and compared on the same workstation. The system is designed to support all imaging and information from the Unity System.

This approach avoids many problems encountered by early adopters of FFDM that purchased dedicated standalone workstations. These facilities have discovered their setup has compounded inefficiencies by creating isolated islands of information separate from their PACS infrastructure.

The dedicated digital workstations force radiologists to move between multiple workstations to compare clinical information and images. With a separate workstation, even the review of prior film-based exams is often performed with a separate viewer. Reporting may require a separate dictation system, separate paper-based information system, and manual or semi-automated MQSA tracking.

Linking these disparate systems together increases the risk of malfunction and increases cost associated with separate maintenance agreements and different training regimens.

The integration of FFDM with the DR Systems Unity RIS/PACS combines all disparate workflows into one automated database. The results are:

* Improved radiologist efficiency, productivity, and convenience as radiologists view all modalities and perform all functions from a single radiologist-designed workstation and the same user interface.

* Unique, automated workflow features for faster reading of all breast modalities, Image Shuffling, Image Shuttering, CAD display, and Pixel Tracking[TM].

* Automated reporting with DR Systems' Instant Reporter option with digital dictation and voice-recognition-based template reports.

* Complete scheduling including Web access from the referring physician office.

* Automated MQSA auditing information including outcomes reports, audits and delinquent patient reporting, lay letter creation, radiology and pathology correlation workflow, and follow-up task generation.

* Integrated breast diagrams and checklist documentation.

* Available integrated peer review module.

* Web distribution of images and reports.

* Elimination of duplicate digital workstations, storage devices, extra networking, and distribution infrastructure along with the separate service contracts for these disparate systems.

* No cost for life-time mammography film storage.

* No capital expenditure for additional radiology department space and redundant equipment.

Facilities that wish to use a third-party mammo reporting and tracking system may choose DR Systems' mammography-reporting interface module. The company has interfaces to leading mammo reporting and tracking systems including MRS([R]) and PenRad.
