, CA, PLATINUM technology Platinum Technology Inc. was founded by Andrew Filipowski in 1987 to market and support deployment of Database Management software products and the applications enabled by database management technology and render related services. , inc. is demonstrating its integrated, single-vendor solution for enterprise systems management. PLATINUM, Computer Associates, and Novell were the three vendors selected to participate in the Summit's Enterprise Management Theater. In the Theater, PLATINUM is simulating a real-world customer scenario solving 15 typical IT challenges encountered in major organizations every day. PLATINUM's customized approach to addressing user needs, combined with its extensive line of systems management tools, has allowed the company to solve this complex scenario using its own products entirely.

"We're especially pleased to have this opportunity to present our Enterprise Systems Management Solution," said Marty Leamy, vice president of PLATINUM's systems management product division. "The IT challenges presented in the Summit's scenario are good examples of the types of issues PLATINUM helps customers solve every day. We provide the best point products available, and integrate them where it adds value for our customers. In addition to integrating our products, PLATINUM's solutions can also be linked to all of the major system and network management frameworks to achieve enterprise-wide interoperability."

"We chose PLATINUM because their systems management solutions address our mission-critical IT needs, and we look to them as a partner, to work with us as our IT needs grow," said Roger Williams, director of operations at Telesphere Corporation, a New York-based firm that supplies global securities pricing information to major brokerage companies, investment firms, and electronic trading This article or section is in need of attention from an expert on the subject.

"It's absolutely crucial that our customers get the global securities data we provide throughout the day, and within seconds after the stock market closes. PLATINUM's tools, especially the PLATINUM AutoSys job scheduling In a large computer, establishing a job queue to run a sequence of programs over any period of time such as a single shift, a full day, etc.  tool, help us ensure that data is transmitted to our customers when they need it," said Williams.

Industry analysts agree that PLATINUM provides solutions that truly address customer needs. "By providing the integration, on the customer's terms, of point products for systems management, PLATINUM technology, inc. goes a long way to meeting user requirements," said Judith Hurwitz, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization.  and research firm specializing in distributed software. "Corporations want to move ahead with implementing key systems management products today while they begin to move towards a framework. PLATINUM's approach meets this objective. Customers can either buy individual products or begin to implement them as part of a standards-based framework for data sharing The ability to share the same data resource with multiple applications or users. It implies that the data are stored in one or more servers in the network and that there is some software locking mechanism that prevents the same set of data from being changed by two people at the same time.  and communication."

The Enterprise Management Theater

For this year's Enterprise Management Theater, the Summit conference committee developed a scenario containing 15 problems and tasks that confront IT professionals daily. Situations presented in the scenario include: an illegal host accessing the network, excessive LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  traffic, servers disconnected from the network, full UNIX file systems, a help desk initiating a trouble ticket, software distribution tasks, and many other activities.

To address these situations in the Theater, PLATINUM has assembled a representative distributed enterprise environment, including networked servers and workstations running different versions of UNIX UNIX

Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics).
, Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. , Windows95, and numerous databases and applications. PLATINUM is showing how its products work together, managed from a central point of control, to solve each of the situations. PLATINUM's Enterprise Systems Management products featured in the demonstration include:

- PLATINUM Apriori -- automated problem resolution system, for use in help desk, customer service, and technical support environments.

- PLATINUM AutoSecure -- complete security management system.

- PLATINUM AutoSys -- automated job scheduling and job management system.

- PLATINUM AutoXfer and AutoXfer Inventory -- automated software distribution and inventory/discovery tools.

- PLATINUM DBVision -- performance monitoring and management tool for relational databases and applications in a distributed environment.

- PLATINUM WireTap wiretap n. using an electronic device to listen in on telephone lines, which is illegal unless allowed by court order based upon a showing by law enforcement of "probable cause" to believe the communications are part of criminal activities.  -- network/application performance monitoring and management tool.

In addition to systems management solutions, PLATINUM also provides solutions for four other major IT areas: application development, business intelligence, data warehousing See data warehouse.

data warehousing - data warehouse
, and database management. To address the Theater scenarios, PLATINUM will also use products from these other disciplines: for example, PLATINUM TSreorg, a database management tool, will be used to solve an Oracle tablespace problem (and TSreorg's activity will be initiated by the PLATINUM AutoSys product).
