Asynchrony's PDA Defense Selected as an Integral Part of Tungsten MIM Solution.

Asynchrony Solutions, Inc. (www.asolutions.com), a leading provider of collaboration, communication, and security solutions, today announced it has provided Palm, Inc. with a security application bundled in the new Tungsten(TM) Mobile Information Management (MIM) Solution. Palm implemented Asynchrony's PDA Defense Enterprise product into its Tungsten MIM Solution under the brand name "Security Plus."

The Tungsten MIM Solution gives IT administrators control over handheld security policies, including mandatory password protection for end-users; length, complexity, and expiry of passwords; data encryption; and application access control. In addition, Security Plus protects against theft and brute force password attacks with data-wipe functionality. The encryption capability protects data and applications on the device and expansion cards, with a choice of 128-bit or 512-bit symmetric key algorithm.

Further, the handhelds themselves are often a target for theft. According to a June 2002 survey by Maritz/Thompson Lightstone, 80 percent of CIOs (chief information officers) are using, testing, or considering the implementation of a wireless handheld security strategy. Additional research by Gartner Group indicates that by 2003, there will be one billion wireless smart devices, and more than 600 million of those will be Web enabled. This new solution comes at a time when the industry need for security couldn't be greater.

The Tungsten MIM Solution will be sold through authorized Palm sales channels in the United States. It supports both the Palm i705 handheld and the Palm m500 series handhelds with Xircom Wireless LAN Module. In addition, PDA Defense will be sold through these channels as a stand-alone product for users of earlier versions of Palm handhelds, or as a complement to protect other handhelds not covered under the Tungsten MIM Solution, including Pocket PCs and Blackberry units that might be deployed within an enterprise.
