It typically includes a name and address database, calendar, to-do list and note taker, which are the functions in a personal information manager (see PIM).  Defense Enterprise product into its Tungsten MIM Solution under the brand name "Security Plus."

The Tungsten MIM Solution gives IT administrators control over handheld security policies, including mandatory password protection for end-users; length, complexity, and expiry of passwords; data encryption data encryption, the process of scrambling stored or transmitted information so that it is unintelligible until it is unscrambled by the intended recipient. Historically, data encryption has been used primarily to protect diplomatic and military secrets from foreign ; and application access control. In addition, Security Plus protects against theft and brute force (programming) brute force - A primitive programming style in which the programmer relies on the computer's processing power instead of using his own intelligence to simplify the problem, often ignoring problems of scale and applying naive methods suited to small problems directly  password attacks with data-wipe functionality. The encryption capability protects data and applications on the device and expansion cards, with a choice of 128-bit or 512-bit symmetric key algorithm.

"Security is one of the biggest challenges that corporations face today," said Rebecca Taylor Rebecca Taylor (c. 1969–) is a New Zealand-born fashion designer based in New York, New York, U.S.. Power-on authentication and data encryption should be the first line of defense for any handheld that holds sensitive data or connects to your corporate network."

The proliferation of handheld devices and wireless messaging has made companies vulnerable at several points of attack: confidential information Noun 1. confidential information - an indication of potential opportunity; "he got a tip on the stock market"; "a good lead for a job"

, network passwords, e-mail, and customer lists. Further, the handhelds themselves are often a target for theft. According to a June 2002 survey by Maritz/Thompson Lightstone, 80 percent of CIOs (chief information officers) are using, testing, or considering the implementation of a wireless handheld security strategy. Additional research by Gartner Group indicates that by 2003, there will be one billion wireless smart devices, and more than 600 million of those will be Web enabled. This new solution comes at a time when the industry need for security couldn't be greater.

"Asynchrony has been receiving a lot of recognition from security experts and customers for its development of PDA Defense, and it's great to see that an industry leader like Palm has entrusted our company in this important endeavor," said Bob Elfanbaum, vice-president and co-founder of Asynchrony Solutions. "For companies and CIOs looking to protect their wireless enterprise information, they have to take a hard look at this new Tungsten MIM Solution.
