BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 1995--Asymetrix Corp. today announced shipment of Asymetrix 3D F/X(TM), a graphics tool for creating dazzling 3-D images and sophisticated animations that combine unmatched power, affordability and ease of use.

The new product brings sophisticated 3-D graphics and animation capabilities to business presenters, graphics designers and CD-ROM publishers who lack the budget or time for training required by other 3-D animation software. Asymetrix 3D F/X has a U.S. suggested retail price of $99.

The revolutionary approach of Asymetrix 3D F/X gives users "Drag and Drop 3-D for Windows" by making the process of creating professional graphics and animation as fast and easy as dragging and dropping 3-D elements onto scenes. Asymetrix 3D F/X is the only 3-D graphics tool to provide real-time, solid-model preview for the Windows(TM)-based PC market, allowing users to see their scenes with realistic solid shapes rather than confusing wire-frame simulations as they work. The built-in Visual Browser includes more than 300 3-D models, shapes, starter scenes, animation paths, lighting variations, backgrounds and surfaces that can be modified or used as is. Users can quickly create 3-D text, add textures to any surface, change the color or light intensity of a scene, or spin, rotate and "fly" models and text.

Users get the sophisticated animation effects used by full-time professional animators, including reflection and bump maps; bitmap, solid and video textures; text warping; shadows; 24-bit true color; and alpha channel for transparency effects. True reflections and optical effects are available through ray tracing. The scene contents window -- another 3D F/X first -- provides users an interactive outline view of all scene elements. Both professional and occasional animators can use these features to work quickly and more productively.

The fast, high-quality rendering engine enables users to complete their finished animations in a fraction of the time required by traditional animation packages. Users can output still images as .BMP or .TGA files, and animations as AVI video files and sequentially numbered .BMP files. Images can be rendered at printer resolution for the highest-quality printed output.

To make 3D F/X easy for users to integrate with their existing computer environments, Asymetrix designed the software to be fully compatible with the broadest range of animation and graphics formats already in use. 3D F/X is compatible with Microsoft(R) Office, and it supports OLE 2.0 object technology.

Asymetrix 3D F/X requires Microsoft Windows 3.1 or later, a personal computer with a 33MHz 80386 or later processor, a math coprocessor; a CD-ROM drive; a hard drive with 16MB of free disk space; 8MB of RAM; and a Windows-compatible graphics adapter card supporting 256 or more colors.
