Asymetrix Releases the Neuron Plug-In; Instant Internet access for all ToolBook 4.0 Applications.


BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 1996--Asymetrix Corporation today announced immediate availability of the beta version A pre-shipping release of hardware or software that has gone through alpha test. A beta version of software is supposed to be very close to the final product, but, in practice, it is more a way of getting users to test the software in the first place under real conditions.  of the Neuron plug-in, giving internet access See how to access the Internet.  to all titles produced with any of the Asymetrix ToolBook 4.0 line. Neuron allows end users to download and play presentations, kiosks, courseware and other multimedia titles produced in ToolBook over the Internet. Because the Neuron plug-in supports external multimedia files, users can access either complete titles or just the relevant portions of titles providing a streaming-like functionality. Multimedia content that is not requested is not downloaded saving the end user time and making the application more responsive.

Soon after its introduction in 1994, Navigator, or just "Netscape," as it was commonly called, quickly became the leading browser on the Web.  2.0. Asymetrix is planning on extending support to other leading browsers including Microsoft Internet Explorer See Internet Explorer. . The final version of Neuron will be available in June. The entire ToolBook 4.0 line, from basic ToolBook to Multimedia ToolBook - CBT (Computer-Based Training) Using the computer for training and instruction. CBT programs are called "courseware" and provide interactive training sessions for all disciplines.  Edition is compatible with Neuron.
