Asylum seeker in ferry leap deported.


A Lithuanian asylum seeker asylum seeker asylum ndemandeur/euse d'asile  who leapt into the Tyne from a North Sea ferry in a desperate attempted to enter Britain is being deported, it was confirmed last night.

The Home Office said the man was being detained by the Immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. The man was picked up by a passing yacht as he tried to swim a quarter of a mile to the shore below Tynemouth Priory.

A Home Office spokeswoman said yesterday: "He will be deported as soon as it is possible as Lithuania is a country we class as a safe country."

If an asylum seeker tries to enter England from a `safe' country they can be deported without appeal.

They can then appeal once they arrive home.
