Astute Irvine should make Preston challengers.

Kevin Pullein Do not entirely discount 40-1 Preston in the Championship. Since winning promotion to this level, they have finished in the top third of the table six times in nine seasons, and it is not inconceivable that they could improve further under the seemingly astute management of Alan Irvine Alan Irvine (born July 12th, 1958 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a former footballer.

He is currently the assistant manager at English Premier League football club Everton, who he made eighty appearances for as a player in the early 1980s.
, formerly an assistant to David Moyes David William Moyes (b. April 25, 1963 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a football manager and former player. He is currently the manager of Everton F.C.. He has twice been named, in 2003 and 2005, as the 'League Managers' Association manager of the year', and is one of the younger  at Everton.

Millwall catch the eye in League One. You get a solid club who would not have to kick on all that much from last season's performance under the mature management of Kenny Jackett Kenny Jackett (born 5 January 1962 in Watford) is a former Welsh football player who is now a manager. He is presently reserve team manager of Manchester City.

A skilful player, equally at home in defence or midfield, Jackett was capped 31 times for Wales.
, who won promotion with his previous club, Swansea.

There are lots of big clubs in League One - Leeds (who finished only two points above Millwall last season but are just 4-1 to win the title this time) and newly-relegated Charlton, Norwich and Southampton.

Although Leicester won this division last season, other wellsupported sides have failed to do so in previous years - Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Manchester City. If they are playing at this level, there is a reason.

Bury are worthy of consideration in League Two, though it is a worry that they will have to play for a month without last season's leading scorer Andy Bishop For the former professional cyclist of the same name, see .
Andrew Jamie "Andy" Bishop (born October 19 1982 in Stone, England) is an English footballer, currently playing for Bury in League Two, playing the position of striker.
.

If Bishop had managed 18 goals last season, rather than 16, Bury would already be in League One.

As usual, it is easy to identify the small number of teams capable of winning the Premier League but hard to pick the one that will actually do so.

If Liverpool hold on to at least one of Mascherano or Alonso they could finally wrest the title from Manchester United. Premier League Liverpool Championship Preston League One Millwall League Two Bury
