Astronaut, Physician and Scientist Roberta Bondar "BIOTECanada Biotechnology Champion," visits Saskatoon During National Biotechnology Week.

, Canada's first female astronaut astronaut, crew member on a U.S. manned spaceflight mission; the Soviet term is cosmonaut. Candidates for manned spaceflight are carefully screened to meet the highest physical and mental standards, and they undergo rigorous training. , is speaking at a luncheon on September 24th, 2008 at the Saskatoon Inn.

The luncheon is hosted by the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce and the North Saskatoon Business Association, in support of National Biotechnology Week. The title of Dr. Bondar's presentation is "A Little Biotech Goes a Long Way." Dr. Bondar will also speak to approximately 600 students at E.D. Feehan Catholic High School in Saskatoon, starting at 2:00 p.m.

With National Biotechnology Week in its fifth year, events are planned across Canada Across Canada was an afternoon program that formerly aired on The Weather Network. The segment ran from early 1999 until mid 2002. The show ran from 3:00PM ET until 7:00 PM ET.  to promote awareness and to celebrate the benefits of biotechnology. The City of Saskatoon, the City of Regina and the Province of Saskatchewan have officially proclaimed September 19 to 26 as Biotech Week, while Saskatchewan organizations are collaborating to host a variety of events.

On September 23rd, an Education Outreach Education outreach is a variation of Cause Marketing and/or Strategic Philanthropy and other focused Public Affairs activities that are specific to education. These programs may include:
  • Community events that occur in local venues or online;
 Day is being held at the U of S College of Agriculture and Bioresources. Grade-school students from three rural schools (Warman, Leask and Hague) are participating in fun and informative, hands-on activities, with names such as "Power of Fungi and Bacteria"; "The Art of Death"; and "Biodiesel Fun House."

On September 25th around 50 guests are expected to attend a Regional Advocacy Day at the Legislative Assembly in Regina starting at 1:30 p.m. Keynote speakers are Daren Coppock, Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Wheat Growers The National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) is an advocacy group based in Washington, D.C. that supports the collective interests of wheat farmers in the United States.

NAWG was founded in 1950, and is structured as a federation of state grain growers associations.
