Astro-Med signed the contract with SAGEM SAGEM Societe d'Applications Generales d'Electricite et de Mecanique S.A., a corporation located in Paris, France. Under the terms of the contract, Astro-Med will supply the ToughWriter ruggedized thermal printers. Designed to print hard copies of data received by the pilot including air traffic controller instructions, weather information, and detailed airport maps, the printers will be located in the cockpit close to the pilot so that he will have instant access to printouts. The ToughWriters use a standard A4 or B4 paper size and utilize PostScript 3(R) printer language. Commenting on the contract, Everett V. Pizzuti, President and COO of Astro-Med, stated: "The contract will cover the requirements for A380 cockpit printers beginning late in 2004 and continuing for the life of the Aircraft. We estimate the value of the contract to be in excess of $5 million dollars over the next several years."
