), a leading designer and manufacturer of advanced data recording systems and printers for aerospace, industrial, and medical applications announced today that it has signed a contract to furnish Flight Deck (cockpit) printers for the new Boeing 787 aircraft.

Astro-Med signed the contract with Honeywell Aerospace, Phoenix, Arizona Phoenix /ˈfiːˌnɪks/ (English: Phoenix, Navajo: Hoozdo, lit. "the place is hot", Western Apache: Fiinigis) is the capital and the most populous city of the U.S.  to furnish a version of its ToughWriter 4 printer for this application. The agreement is for the next ten years and is renewable for an additional ten years to cover the expected life of the aircraft. It is estimated that approximately 2600 aircraft will be produced, and each will be equipped with one cockpit printer. The ToughWriter 4 is designed to print hard copies of data received by the pilot including air traffic controller instructions, weather information, and detailed airport maps.

Commenting on the award, Everett V. Pizzuti, President and COO of Astro-Med stated: "This is the third major contract that Astro-Med has received for airborne printers for commercial aircraft. In January of 2004 we announced a contract award from Sagem S.A. for ToughWriter 4 cockpit printers for the Airbus A380 and in April of this year we announced a contract award for ToughWriter 4 cabin printers from Panasonic Avionics Corporation Panasonic Avionics Corporation (previously incorporated as Matsushita Avionics Systems), is a part of Matsushita Electric Industrial and is headquartered in Lake Forest, California with major business functions also shared with the former headquarters located in Bothell, WA.  for the Airbus A380. These contracts clearly establish Astro-Med as the leader in the market for airborne printers and position us as the frontrunner to provide printers for additional new models as well as the refurbishing of the large base of existing aircraft."
