Astro-Med is now Boeing's supplier of printers for both the C-17 and C-130 aircraft. Astro-Med's model TW-3 ToughWriter is a ruggedized thermal printer See direct thermal printer and thermal wax transfer printer.  designed to print hard copies of all data received by the airborne crew including air traffic controller instructions, communication information, weather maps, airport maps, and other documents on demand. The hard copy output helps minimize communication errors between the cockpit crews and ground based air traffic controllers. With a standard 8-1/2" wide paper format, the ruggedized printer utilizes PostScript(R) printer language.

Commenting on the contract, Everett V. Pizzuti, President and COO of Astro-Med, stated: "The contract will cover the requirements for C-130 cockpit printers beginning in 2004 and continuing through the year 2013. Shipments under the new contract will begin in late 2004. We estimate the value of the contract to be approximately $6 to $9 million dollars. This contract continues and solidifies the long standing relationship between Astro-Med and Boeing covering ToughWriter printers, ruggedized hubs, and data acquisition recording systems."
