Astea announces customer service excellence initiatives.

Company promotes two top professionals, Fran Laliberte

and John Van Son, to senior customer service management roles

: ATEA) announced today that two of its customer service professionals have been promoted to vice presidential positions within the company's product development and customer services group. The promotions of Fran Laliberte to the position of vice president of custom services and standard development and of John Van Son to the newly created position of vice president of professional services (job) professional services - A department of a supplier providing consultancy and programming manpower for the supplier's products.  further indicate Astea's commitment to becoming the leader in the billion dollar customer interaction software market.

These management changes will help Astea expand the penetration of its customer support/help desk, field service, and sales and marketing automation solutions worldwide by providing improved distribution of management responsibilities that is expected to be more agile and responsive to changing customer needs and market conditions.

Fran Laliberte, Vice President, Custom Services and Standard Development

Laliberte, who was promoted from director of custom services, will direct Astea's standard development group along with the NCR (NCR Corporation, Dayton, OH, www.ncr.com) A technology company specializing in financial terminal transactions, retail systems and data warehousing. Until the late 1990s, NCR was heavily invested in the hardware side of the industry, known worldwide as a major manufacturer of computers  and custom development groups. This new structure will allow the company to continuously address product development issues by leveraging the resources of all three organizations. Laliberte will report directly to Zack Bergreen.

Laliberte, who joined Astea in October 1991 as a consultant, has over 25 years of experience in the software industry. He has held several other positions during his career at Astea, including director of NCR services, director of professional services and manager of custom development.

John Van Son, Vice President, Professional Services

In this newly created position, Van Son will report to Hank Firey, Astea's senior vice president of sales, marketing and professional services, to position the professional services organization closer to the company's customers. This change will enable the group to work directly with Astea's sales and marketing organization to help the company reach new levels of customer service excellence.

Van Son, who has 22 years of experience in the high-tech industry, joined Astea in January 1996 as senior director of professional services. Prior to joining Astea, Van Son was director of multivendor service alliances at Decision One, the largest independent computer service organization in the U.S.

Van Son's other positions at Decision One included director of business unit development and Wang services program director. Previously, he was chairman and CEO of Continuity Services, an independent computer maintenance company he founded that was later acquired by Decision One.
