Assurant Health Promotes Company Leadership; Company Builds on Strength in Individual Medical and Small Group Markets.

MILWAUKEE -- Assurant Health, a national leader in Individual Medical, Health Savings Accounts, Small Group and Specialty health insurance products, today announced the promotions of key management executives. Assurant Health President and CEO Don Hamm said, "These executives will continue to spearhead Assurant Health's leadership on a national scale while utilizing their operational expertise in the individual and group health insurance markets."

Specific changes are the promotions of Raj Bal to Executive Vice President, Individual Markets; Mike Kellen, to Senior Vice President, Group Markets; Kim Pollard, to Senior Vice President, Individual Markets Development and Implementation; Laree Daniel, to Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer; and Brian Wolf, to Vice President, Direct Marketing & e-Sales.

As Executive Vice President, Individual Markets, Raj Bal will oversee Individual Product Management and Development as well as Sales, Marketing, Distribution and Underwriting of Individual Medical, Short Term Medical, Student Select, and non-traditional products including discount cards. Most recently, Bal served as Executive Vice President, Group Markets.

Bal joined the company in 1999 as a Vice President in Small Group product management and later was named Specialty Products Vice President. In his most recent role as Executive Vice President, Group Markets, he was responsible for the marketing, sales and development of all group operations. After starting his career at Procter & Gamble and Mobil, Bal later served as President and co-CEO of Zeta Consumer Products Corporation from 1993 to 1998 and President of Webster Industries from 1987 to 1993. He earned his B.A. in economics from Loyola College in India and his M.B.A. from the University of Manitoba. Bal is a board member of the Heartland Institute in Chicago and the Penfield Children's Center in Milwaukee.

Bal succeeds Steve DeRaleau, who has left the company.

As Senior Vice President, Group Markets, Mike Kellen will oversee the entire Group Markets area, including Sales, Actuarial, Underwriting and Marketing, and will continue the leadership of this important segment of the Assurant Health business.

Prior to joining Assurant Health in 1999, Kellen spent over 20 years with Northwestern Mutual, Washington National and Mutual of Omaha. Kellen has been an active participant in the small group rating and access reform debate since its inception and has been active in speaking to industry groups as well as state and federal legislators and regulators on these and related issues. Kellen has his M.S. in statistics from the University of Iowa. He is a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Society of Actuaries.

Since joining Assurant Health in 1999, Kim Pollard has led the transformation of administration and customer management operations, underwriting, and claims, and has taken the company to a higher level of service and risk management. In her new role as Senior Vice President, Individual Markets, she will oversee Individual Medical development initiatives, including Underwriting and Risk, Development, Implementation, and Market Research, as well as Defined Contribution product offerings. She joined Assurant Health from Mutual of Omaha, where she served as Executive Vice President, Customer Service Operations. Pollard received her B.S. degree in economics from the University of Nebraska and has attained the FALU, FLMI and CLU certifications.

Laree Daniel joined Assurant Health in 2000, serving as Senior Vice President of Customer Operations with oversight for Assurant Health's Claims, Health Management Services, Knowledge Management and Customer Service functions. Daniel joined Assurant Health from Mutual of Omaha, where she held vice president positions in Claims and General Services. She serves as a trustee of the Assurant Health Foundation and a member of the board for the Task Force on Family Violence in Milwaukee. Daniel has a Master's degree in Organizational Psychology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a B.S. in Business and Psychology from Nebraska Wesleyan University. She holds the HIA (Health Insurance Associate) and ACS (Accredited Customer Service) designations.

Brian Wolf, promoted to Vice President, Direct Marketing & e-Sales, has led the continued growth of Assurant Health's Specialty Products division. He now also assumes responsibility for Direct Marketing and the Direct Sales Center. Wolf joined Assurant Health in 2003 from FleetBoston Financial, where he served as Senior Vice President and built a strategic marketing division. He has more than 20 years experience generating revenue growth in the financial services industry through direct marketing, product development, risk management, and sales force management. Wolf has both a B.S. in Marketing and M.B.A. from Lehigh University.
