Assumption University.Windsor ON -- Assumption University of Windsor History In 2003, the university marked its 40th anniversary. Its history dates back to the founding of Assumption College in 1857. Originally, Assumption was one the largest colleges associated with the University of Western Ontario. Ontario is what was left over when, in the early nineteen sixties, the government formed the University of Windsor and took over all teaching duties. But it still exists on paper and still has funds left over from the original take-over; its Basilian Board can still organize some events and grant honourary doctorate degrees.
