Association for Women in Computing Names Carol Bartz for Highest Honor; Autodesk CEO Receives Augusta Ada Lovelace Award.

Honoring her lifetime achievements and impact on women in the computing computing - computer  field, the Association for Women in Computing Global concerns about current and future roles of women in computing occupations gained more importance with the emerging information age. These concerns motivated public policy debates addressing gender equality as computer applications exerted increasing influence in society.  awarded Autodesk CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Carol Bartz its highest honor: the Augusta Ada Lovelace (person) Ada Lovelace - (1811-1852) The daughter of Lord Byron, who became the world's first programmer while cooperating with Charles Babbage on the design of his mechanical computing engines in the mid-1800s.

The language Ada was named after her.

The ceremony took place at the Association's national board meeting in Berkeley, California Berkeley is a city on the east shore of San Francisco Bay in Northern California, in the United States. Its neighbors to the south are the cities of Oakland and Emeryville. To the north is the city of Albany and the unincorporated community of Kensington. .

The Association for Women in Computing is the leading resource connecting thousands of women throughout the US who are looking to advance in the computing field. The annual award is named for Augusta Ada Lovelace, the British mathematician known as the first computer programmer, and recognizes individuals' outstanding scientific and technical achievements and contributions on behalf of women in computing.

Carol Bartz is chairman of the board, president and CEO of Autodesk, Inc., the world's leading supplier of design software and one of the biggest PC software companies in the world. Since Bartz took the helm in 1992, the company has diversified diversified (di·verˑ·s  its product line and grown revenues from $285 million to more than $825 million in FY03.

Appointed to President Bush's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, Bartz is one of a select group of industry leaders expected to play a key role in shaping and setting the government's high-tech agenda - ranging from R&D funding to new broadband incentives. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the New York Stock Exchange New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)
