While most varieties of cast iron are brittle, ductile iron is much more ductile, as the name implies.  Marketing Group (DIMG) joined together for a "Metalcasting: Giving Form to Innovation" exhibit at the 2003 Society of Automotive Engineers SAE International (SAE) is a professional organization for mobility engineering professionals in aerospace, automotive and the commercial vehicle industries.

(SAE) World Congress & Expo in March.

In addition to the exhibit, the AFS Technical Dept. coordinated a metalcasting track as part of the SAE Congress. This metalcasting track was expanded from one day to a two-day track with 23 papers presented.

One of the papers was recognized at the Honors Convocation Luncheon on March 4 during this year's show. Selected to receive one of 10 Arch T. Colwell Merit Awards was "The Effect of Metallurgical Variables on the Machinability of Compacted Graphite Iron," authored by Sintercast's Steve Dawson Steven "Dobby" Dawson (1951), British bass guitarist, founder of Saxon.
