Assiut hydroelectric station project.


Location : On the Nile River, Egypt Details : Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Energy (MEE) has finalized a feasibility study of Assiut hydroelectric station project that will cost EGP1.1 billion ($201 million).

An agreement was signed with the consultancy house in charge of preparing the paperwork of the station that will be operational by 2014.

The total capacity of the station will be 32,000 KW. The consultancy house is currently selecting specialized companies in this field and preparing a draft of technical specifications and designs of the project. Assiut hydroelectric station is the last big plant to be established on the Nile River.

The station consists of four units and produces 240 million kilowatt-hours. It will help reduce emissions of nearly 125,000 tons of carbon dioxide during production of the same quantity of electricity using thermal stations.
