As the United States' population ages, many people will have reason to leave their homes and seek help elsewhere in daily living. But many of those are likely to choose assisted-living facilities rather than nursing homes if these facilities are available, according to according to

The average cost of residing in an assisted-living facility is $2,159 a month, or $25,908 a year, while the average annual cost of residing in a nursing home has climbed to about $61,000, the survey said.

Assisted-living facilities provide a relatively independent lifestyle. These facilities provide meals in a social setting and help with common tasks such as bathing and dressing. "Since most long-term-care insurance policies cover assisted living facilities, this is yet another reason for people to explore the need for that product," said Sandra sandra (sänˑ·dr),
