Assistant US Trade Representative for South Asian Affairs Ambassador Ashley Wills Joins WilmerHale.

Ambassador Wills was most recently the Assistant United States Trade Representative (USTR) for South/Southwest Asia - the first such office at USTR. Ambassador Wills has had a lengthy and distinguished career in the US Foreign Service. From 1995 to 2000, Ambassador Wills served in India and, among other posts at the US Embassy in New Delhi, was the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy. He then became the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives from the end of 2000 to 2003, when he was called back to the United States to assume his role at USTR. He held a series of additional posts from 1983 to 1995, in Brussels and Belgrade, and as Officer-in-Charge for South African Affairs for the US State Department. Ambassador Wills is a well known and highly regarded figure in India and South Asia and, as the Assistant USTR, has been a leading figure in the development and execution of the Administration's trade policy in South Asia.
