AssetMetrix, Inc. today announced the launch of AssetMetrix Impact(TM), the newest of AssetMetrix's PC inventory and IT asset analysis services, giving corporations the power to determine the precise cost and effort involved in preparing for Microsoft's newly released Office XP suite.

Using AssetMetrix's patent-pending e-mail based process to inventory corporate PCs at a rate of 1,000 PCs per minute, IT managers can gain detailed hardware and software inventories of corporate PC populations anywhere in the world, regardless of whether the PCs are on LANs or at remote offices.

Microsoft Office XP migration costs are currently important to many corporations, since according to Microsoft, "upgrade" pricing for Microsoft Office XP will only be available before Oct. 1, 2001; those who choose to upgrade after that date will be required to pay full purchase price.

AssetMetrix Impact consists of 24 online reports, including the "Office XP Upgrade Analysis" report, which determines Microsoft Office XP migration costs using two methods:

-- 1) Office Edition Mapping: Since installation requirements differ between
the Standard, Professional and Developer editions of Microsoft Office XP,
clients may choose to calculate costs by "mapping" each user's current edition
of Microsoft Office (e.g. Microsoft Office 2000 Professional) to its upgrade
counterpart (Microsoft Office XP Professional). Clients may also disable
mapping and determine total migration cost to any specific edition of Office
XP.

-- 2) PC Configuration Mapping: The requirements for installing Microsoft
Office XP are further determined by individual PC configurations, including
factors such as:

-- Current Operating System

-- Current Office version

-- Currently installed Microsoft `service packs'

-- Current version of Internet Explorer

-- Hardware configuration (CPU, RAM, hard drive)

With AssetMetrix, IT managers will be able to determine who needs more RAM and hard drive space, who will require an OS upgrade, and who will require an entirely new PC. Departmental managers will be able to determine the cost of component upgrades, servicing, and software for each department before the upgrades begin.
