(UQ) have entered into an agreement to foster cooperation in the field of research and publication and knowledge-sharing through exchange of students. Speaking on the occasion, Dr al Maadheed said that as per the MoU, Aspetar and UQ would be collaborating in research initiatives in the field of sports medicine as well as knowledge sharing. While Aspetar is one of the region's first specialised orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital and being accredited as a FIFA FIFA International Association Football Federation [French Fédération Internationale de Football Association] FIFA n abbr (= Fédération Internationale de Football Association) → FIFA f Medical Centre of Excellence, UQ is a 100 year old institution in Australia known for its impressive knowledgebase system in sports medicine. UQ has about 40,000 students from over 120 countries. "Australia did very well in Olympics and Sports in general considering their population size. This tells us that a good sports system is in place and we are very glad to partner with them and learn from their experience and expertiseC*This agreement further enhances Aspetar's reputation as a centre of healthcare and academic excellence. We hope that with this agreement both Aspetar and UQ can be on the leading edge of Sports Medicine and research advancements to not only improve sporting performance but improve the well-being of the population," Dr al Maadheed said. Prof Macdonald also lauded the strategic partnership with Aspetar. She said, "Our university is constantly seeking to tap partners in the international field and Aspetar is certainly one of those valued partners. We've got a pool of staff which are very keen to build international links and who would like to be at the forefront of their work and Aspetar has an extraordinary facility which no doubt could make it an international hub for athlete testing and performanceC* We look forward to having research links and exchange of students, as both countries invest in the next generation." Apart from the partnership with UQ, Aspetar is also working closely with the students of Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar and the Qatar National Olympic Committee in line with its mission to be at the forefront of sports medicine in the country.
