Aspec Appoints Frank Lin and Ray Grammer to Management Team; New Leadership Will Refocus SIP Technology on Profitable Niche Areas and Support New Design Tool Products.

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 1999--

Aspec Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASPC ASPC Associated Students of Pomona College (Claremont, California)

), a provider of very deep submicron system-on-chip (SOC) technologies and design tools, announced today that it has named Frank Lin as its Vice President of Engineering, responsible for all engineering and application support for Aspec's business.

In addition, Ray Grammer was named Chief Financial Officer. Lin and Grammer will replace Yen Chang, Sr. Vice President of Engineering and a founder, and R. Michael O'Malley, Chief Financial Officer, who resigned earlier this year.

"Frank Lin's and Ray Grammer's appointments signal yet another important step in the transformation of Aspec," said Conrad J. Dell'Oca, Chairman of the Board and co-founder of Aspec. "Frank, with over 27 years experience in VLSI VLSI: see integrated circuit.

Ray, with over 30 years of financial and business management experience, will help implement Aspec's new strategy."

The semiconductor intellectual property (SIP) business that Aspec pioneered has gone through dramatic changes in business model since 1998. The traditional product lines of generic libraries targeting at pure play foundries have become commodity products, and as a result have become difficult to differentiate. Aspec will seek to explore new product areas that bring compelling values through Aspec's intimate knowledge and experience of VLSI product development and EDA design methodologies.

About Frank Lin

Lin has come to Aspec from Chip & Chip, Inc., where he was President and co-founder. Previously, Lin worked in various engineering and senior engineering management capacities in the design, development and testing of new products at Lattice Semiconductor Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC) is a United States based manufacturer of high-performance programmable logic devices (FPGAs, CPLDs, & SPLDs). The Oregon based company is the number four ranked company in world market share for FPGA devices,[1] , S-MOS R&D, Bell Labs, and Digital Equipment Corporation (now part of Compaq).

During his career, he has contributed and managed a wide range of product development programs, including microprocessors, graphics controllers, high performance floating point accelerators, complex PLDs (CPLD (Complex PLD) A programmable logic device that is made up of several simple PLDs (SPLDs) with a programmable switching matrix in between the logic blocks.
