Dial-up modems are generally only capable of a maximum bitrate of 56 kbit/s (kilobits per second) and require the full use of a

 (USB) port, the ALE070 is a true plug-and-play device that does away with cumbersome, costly phone company and ISP "truck-rolls", totally eliminating installation cost and boosting ISPs' profit margins. The ALE070 is based on GlobeSpan's Titanium ADSL chip set, allowing it to obtain power directly from the USB bus without an external power supply.

The ALE070 assures a high level of compatibility with the large number of DSLAMs (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers) that also use GlobeSpan's standards-based multimode chip sets. Higher DSLAM (DSL Access Multiplexor) A central office (CO) device for ADSL service that intermixes voice traffic and DSL traffic onto a customer's DSL line. It also separates incoming phone and data signals and directs them onto the appropriate carrier's network. See DSL.  compatibility means fewer technical support calls from end users, resulting in faster, more cost-effective ADSL deployment. Askey's ALE070 also allows the customer's telephone line to be used simultaneously for voice and data transmission, supporting both G.992.1 (G.dmt) and G.992.2 (G.lite) ITU standards with transmission speeds up to 8 Mbps.
