Ask Doctor Cory.

Dear Dr. Cory:

What are good ways to exercise in the winter?

Shelby

Via e-mail

Chesterfield, Michigan

Dear Shelby:

How about dancing or gymnastics; playing in a gym; aerobics or yoga classes; indoor swimming, soccer, tennis, skating, wall climbing; or riding a stationary bike Stationary Bike is a short story written by Stephen King, which was originally published in the fifth edition of From the Borderlands in 2003.

The story depicts the struggle of Richard Sifkitz — a commercial artist and widower — to suppress a passion for
and rowing at a recreation center? Joining a team or club sport at your school or community center is another idea.

Cross country skiing, snowboarding, downhill skiing, ice-skating, and hockey help your muscles stay strong and flexible. Snow sports also give your heart and lungs a good workout while burning hundreds of calories. For those who really want a challenge, try skateskiing.

Have you ever tried snowshoeing snow·shoe

? You burn many more calories with snowshoeing than you do when you walk or run at the same speed. The lifting motion of each step gives the hip and thigh muscles an extra workout. Using poles gets the upper body moving and helps strengthen the arms, shoulders, and back muscles.

Exercises such as the walking lunge, pushups, sit ups, and wall squats can help you get ready for snow sports. To find out how you can earn a President's Challenge Award by combining snow sports with any other physical activity, log on to presidentschallenge.org.

Dear Dr. Cory:

I wonder, why can some people touch their toes and some people can't?

Izzy Chicago, illinois

Dear Izzy:

People who can touch their toes have muscles that stretch and bend easily. Those who cannot touch their toes often have tight muscles. Muscles can be loosened by gentle warm-ups and stretching. Most kids are pretty flexible, meaning they can move in all directions without having tightness or pain. Daily activity helps your body stay healthy, strong, and flexible. Activities that can help improve flexibility include gymnastics, dancing, yoga, aerobics, Pilates, and martial arts This is a list of martial arts, broken down by region and style.
