Asian Cities Lead Cargo Portal Services Bookings; Tokyo Is Top Location but Shanghai is Catching Up, Notes Unisys.

BLUE BELL, Pa. -- Unisys today announced that air cargo air cargo: see aviation.  electronic business continues to grow very rapidly around the world, with growth primarily in Asia. Since 2004, Tokyo has been the top location for bookings on Unisys-operated Cargo Portal Services (CPS (1) (Characters Per Second) The measurement of the speed of a serial printer or the speed of a data transfer between hardware devices or over a communications channel. CPS is equivalent to bytes per second. ), a leading electronic booking and shipment management service for the air cargo industry.

In mid-2005, Tokyo broke the threshold of 1,000 confirmed new bookings made through the service in one week and throughout 2006 it has averaged over that level on a weekly basis. While Tokyo remains the top station for CPS bookings, Shanghai has been catching up and is close to breaking through the level of 1,000 confirmed new bookings per week.

These two top Asian cities demonstrate the global appeal of CPS, despite the fact that the service doesn't currently include the flag carrier of those countries. It also illustrates the pattern of adoption of CPS eBusiness, which is greatest in Asia, followed by North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. .

"All across Asia, we have been impressed with how our customers have quickly and thoroughly embraced e-booking," said Jim Friedel, president, Northwest Airlines Cargo on behalf of all the CPS carriers. "We thank our Tokyo-based customers for leading the charge, and we look forward to seeing other stations passing the 1,000-weekly-bookings milestone level."

Christopher Shawdon, Unisys vice president Logistics Solutions, added that "CPS continues to grow very rapidly with the number of confirmed bookings up more than 35% in the last four months."
