Asian Art Museum Announces Schedule for 19th Asian American Jazz Festival.

ASIAN AMERICAN JAZZ Asian American jazz is a musical movement in the United States begun in the 20th century by Asian American jazz musicians.

Although Asian Americans had been performing jazz music almost since that music's inception, it was not until the late 20th century when a distinctly

It has one of the most comprehensive collections of Asian art in the world.  and the Oakland Asian Cultural Center will serve as hosts to Asian American Jazz 2000 -- an innovative series of performances, showcasing an all-star cast of musicians of many ethnic and musical backgrounds.

Among the other artists scheduled to perform at Asian American Jazz 2000 are: Circle of Fire (Mark Izu Mark Izu is an American jazz double bass player and composer. Pair of small drums, the principal percussion in Hindustani music of northern India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The higher-pitched daya, played with the right hand, is a roughly cylindrical one-skinned drum, usually wooden, normally tuned to the raga's tonic.

Asian American Jazz 2000 will also serve as the venue for the world premiere of the animated hip hop film Wave Twisters. The film combines sounds from QBert's skratch-concept album of the same name released last year, with the arresting hard-edged graphics of long-time graffiti artist Doug Cunningham producing an arresting audio and visual hip-hop mix. QBert will make a special guest appearance to introduce the video and demonstrate skratching, as well as answer questions from the audience.
