Asia Pacific reports successful completion of 1994/5 field programs; reconnaissance program intersects record potash intersections.VANCOUVER, BC--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 25, 1995--ASIA PACIFIC RESOURCES (TSE See Tokyo Stock Exchange. TAKAI-SOMBOOM DEPOSIT As previously reported, a total of 55 diamond drillholes have been completed in this initial project area located some 20 kms southeast of the town of Udon Thani. A high-grade potash deposit, estimated to contain in excess of 250 million tonnes of sylvinite sylvinite: see potassium chloride. , has been discovered. The deposit is located at shallow depth, generally less than 350 metres from surface, and is overlain o·ver·lain v. Past participle of overlie. by a sequence of claystones and salt layers. No problems associated with water occurrence or movement are apparent, and the sylvinite is low in insoluble insoluble /in·sol·u·ble/ (in-sol´u-b'l) not susceptible of being dissolved. in·sol·u·ble adj. Not soluble. particles. Preliminary laboratory tests indicate that the sylvinite should present few, if any, processing problems, and the large grain size of the contained potash is advantageous. The deposit established to date is subject to further expansion, and it is believed that the present mineral body could support a mining operation to produce some 2 million tonnes (KCl) per annum Per annum Yearly. for up to 25 years. Anticipated mining grades would probably be of the order of 25% K2O or greater, comparing very favourably with the higher grade potash mines currently operating worldwide. 1995 RECONNAISSANCE PROGRAM In addition to the detailed drilling program completed at the Takai-Somboom deposit, a 9 hole widely-spaced reconnaissance drilling program has been completed immediately south of Udon Thani and northwest of Takai-Somboom (see attached map). The drilling pattern extended over a distance of about 10 kms. from the previously drilled hole K-83 and has succeeded in demonstrating the potential for a very significant expansion of the sylvinite deposit underlying Asia Pacific Potash Corp.'s potash concession. The reconnaissance program covers an areal extent similar to that encompassing the Takai-Somboom area. The area included in this program extends within about 7 kms of the Takai-Somboom deposit. It is quite possible that it represents an extension of that deposit, and this will be investigated by further drilling towards the end of 1995. Of the nine holes completed, six were very successful, as was the previously drilled hole K-83. Assay grades are not yet available for the remainder of the drillholes. The most significant potash intersection at the Takai Somboom deposit was measured at about 12 metres. Intersections drilled during the reconnaissance program were in excess of this in the majority of holes drilled. This must be viewed as extremely positive for a major increase in indicated reserves. The remaining drillholes completed in the area (holes 95-54, 57 and 60) intersected the lower salt horizon at relatively shallow depths and little sylvinite was present. These holes are located in a line indicating a ridge across the area which may define a boundary between two substantial potash deposits. Further detailed drilling programs will fully define the overall potash potential within the large (2,333 sq. kms) concession area. RECEIPT OF FUNDING The company is now in receipt of private placement funds in the amount of $15.6 million, and is fully financed to undertake and complete full feasibility studies The analysis of a problem to determine if it can be solved effectively. The operational (will it work?), economical (costs and benefits) and technical (can it be built?) aspects are part of the study. Results of the study determine whether the solution should be implemented. for a mining operation near Udon Thani. It is anticipated that such studies shall commence in late-1995, and be completed within 18 months. Additionally, the company proposes to conduct on-going drilling programs to fully assess the full potential of the high grade sylvinite deposits underlying the concession area. Asia Pacific Resources Ltd. holds a 75% interest in the project through its equity position in the Bangkok-based Asia Pacific Potash Corp. Thai Central Chemical Co. holds a 15% interest, while the government of the Kingdom of Thailand holds the remaining 10%. The Udon Thani potash concession is located some 500 kms northeast of Bangkok Bangkok (băng`kŏk'), Thai Krung Thep, city (1990 pop. 8,538,610), capital of Thailand and of Bangkok prov., SW Thailand, on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River, near the Gulf of Thailand. .
