Asia America MultiTechnology Association Hosts Connect 2004 Conference: Innovation and Opportunity in the Asian Century.

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- AAMA announces its 8th annual "Connect" conference to be held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Palo Alto, Calif., on Thursday, Oct. 7 and Friday, Oct. 8. AAMA's event is designed to provide attendees with timely knowledge and connections to effectively navigate opportunities in the vast technologic landscape known as the Pacific Rim.

"AAMA is so very pleased to provide investors, senior executives and those highly-charged entrepreneurs, a 'base camp' of a sort -- to begin and advance their expedition in the Asian market for opportunities and investment. This years' event is specifically designed to map out Asian business and investment strategies from both sides of the Pacific, and the diverse line up of speakers includes successful luminaries from each: William R. Hambrecht, chairman and CEO of WR Hambrecht & Co., Dr. David Ho, founding scientific director and CEO of the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center and Time Magazine's "Man of the Year" in 1996, Jen-Hsun Huang, president & CEO of nVidia, Mary Ma, CFO and SVP of Lenovo (Legend Group Limited) and Daniel Shih, CEO of Motorola China. Other C-suite executives, financial and technology analysts and entrepreneurs, will join the speakers in spirited discourse about the innovation and opportunity abound in the Pacific Rim.

"Everybody (non-Asian and Asian Americans) realizes you have to be able to do business in Asia. Interest in Asia is particularly strong in Silicon Valley, where one-third of the region's high-tech companies were founded by or are run by Asian Americans."

Tom Chaffin, whose law firm is an annual sponsor of the conference, reports a sizeable boost in his own business. He attributes some of that increase to a renewed interest in Asia. The conference "was a real opportunity for folks in our own neighborhood to look at things happening in Asia without traveling there," said Chaffin, a partner in Pillsbury Winthrop's Palo Alto office. "Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised at how many opportunities presented themselves at a conference like this."
