Gay sex is still against the law and gay fights groups are prohibited from officially forming, but that doesn't mean gays aren't having a good time in Singapore. More than 6,000 revelers gathered in this conservative country on August 7 to take part in what organizers described as Asia's biggest gay party, according to Agence France-Presse. "We have large numbers of people coming from Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, and the United States," said Stuart Koe, chief executive behind the organizers of the fourth annual Nation party. "There's nothing else like it in Asia."

The event has become such a success, in fact, that gay organizers in neighboring Thailand recently launched a political lobby to battle for the title of Asia's gay-friendliest country. "Singapore is trying to make itself the center of gays and lesbians in Asia, which at this moment is Thailand," Munthana Adisayathepkul, head of a lesbian group in Thailand, told AFP.
